Near Apecchio, Marche, Italy

Beautiful farmhouse and converted barn comprising 6 apartments and restaurant, sleeping up to 20 guests, with swimming pool (12x6m)

This beautiful seventeenth century stone-built farmhouse is in a truly wonderful panoramic position. Perched on a hilltop at a height of 700m it commands stunning views of Marche and the Apennine mountains. Casa Giacomo offers great walking straight from your doorstep.

Set in the heart of the countryside but within easy distance of the small town of Apecchio, Casa Giacomo is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the green wooded hills and majestic mountains. The house itself is thought to have been built by Benedictine monks from the nearby abbey at Scalocchio and was certainly intended to stand the test of time. It was built entirely from local sandstone and inside has spacious rooms with grand fireplaces and thick stone walls, that take you back in time.

Surrounded by a 60 hectare organic farm managed by the owner means that local organic produce is always available.
To taste the local delights you need look no further than the family run restaurant on the site in the converted barn.

And immediately surrounding the property is a large garden furnished with garden chairs, tables and benches, and complete with a superbly positioned swimming pool.

The local town of Apecchio 3.5km away is home to a fossil museum and the town centre is defined by the impressive Palazzo Ubaldini and other historical buildings, seemingly untouched by the passing of time. The town is also known for its mineral springs and is popular with tourists in the summer months.

Even closer to Casa Giacomo is Il Guiso restaurant, an easy stroll away at 1km and well worth a visit especially as guests of Casa Giacomo can expect a very warm welcome and perhaps even a discount.

The famous university Renaissance town of Urbino is within half an hour's drive and offers fine museums and architecture, including the famous Palazzo Ducale which houses one of Marche's most outstanding art collections.

The local area is ideal for trekking and mountain biking and the fresh waters of the Biscubio River offer the possibility of fishing.

With the help of his trained dogs, the owner of Casa Giacomo also offers guided excursions in search of prized white truffles, as well as mushrooms and wild berries.

Private Italian lessons for individuals or groups can be arranged at Casa Giacomo and a free cookery course is on offer each week.

For the intrepid it is also possible to employ expert guides and explore the underground caves of nearby Monte Nerone, complete with underground lakes. And in the winter ski-ing is popular, weather permitting.
